Why?

“Let me ask you a question. When you look in the mirror, what do you like best about yourself?
My hair.
Why?
Well, my father always says that it reminds him of the sunset.
Play the sunset.” – Mr. Holland’s Opus (1995)

I saw the most incredible presentation this morning.  So skilled was the presenter at getting to the core of what makes your life, I had to post part of his message.

When communicating with others, a most powerful question is, “Why?”.  When you ask, amazing revelations may happen.  When the conversations slow, ask “Why?” again.

Every person seeks to be understood and validated.  Every person desires success as they define it.  What happens when something is difficult or you are looking for directions?  Encouragement may come from just asking “Why?”.

“Why?” is a most powerful question.

I do hope our presenter comes to a city near you.  When you see me, ask me about this presentation.  It is about so much more than “Why?” and may change your perspective forever.
