How Children Succeed

If I could pick my favorite program, I would pick Russ Roberts‘ EconTalk.  Every time I listen to his show, I am reminded to slow down when thinking about ideas.  Russ is great at presenting ideas and even ideas in which he doesn’t agree.  In fact, his thoughtful questioning is truly a skill.

On EconTalk this week, Roberts interviews Paul Trough, author of “How Children Succeed”.  Trough examines some tough areas where schools struggle.  He also examines some areas that are equally as challenging where children succeed.  What is the difference?  Well, that is what makes the show so interesting.

In the final minutes, we get a different insight.  Roberts is a scholar in the Hayek tradition.  Trough is not.  I suspect that Trough would be considered more liberal in the current American tradition.  Listen to this dialogue.  We don’t get this type of dialogue by our public officials.  That is too bad.

I listen through Apple TV.  Here is the link directly to Roberts’ site http://www.econtalk.org/archives/2012/09/paul_tough_on_h.html
